Check this out. Open the Songwriter template in LP X. There is a Drummer track, and EXS24 piano, and 3 audio tracks for recording live singers/players. The Drummer track displays audio regions waveforms. Drag them to another track and they change to MIDI regions. Drag them back to the original track and they remain MIDI regions. So they are essentially Green Apple Loops, I guess. This is handy for editing them but I only discovered his by accident.

They are actually MIDI regions, weird look.

(I know you've figured this out already, just thought I'd mention it for the masses.)

When you drag them back to the drummer track you lose any editing you have done in the midi track...

No you don't... you can just use the "convert" command and convert to midi, and edit to your hearts delight.

Program your overall song format, delete your drummer and add a new one. They will then follow your new region definitions with the "audio overview" looking track data. Next, pick the drummer you want, and start playing with the settings for each region (if you like) and create a new dynamic part, then convert to midi, and tweak the track with little subtleties that will make it come to life...

LOVE the new drummer, so much potential!

Actually, you don't. I took one of the Drummer regions, dragged it to an empty software instrument track, deleted the kicks and snares, and then dragged it back and there were still no kicks and snares.

But it did sound different so some Drummer "special sauce" got lost in translation.

The documentation is however clear on that:
    • After converting a Drummer region to a MIDI region, you can convert it back to a Drummer region at a later point. However, any MIDI edits you made to the region will be lost.
