I am trying get my head around storage for my Mac Mini steup. ,I understand the 4 drive concept (internal~osx, recording, samples and storage), but what about types? For recording I understand firewire would be best. Would usb 3 be ok for samples and backup?

My Mac mini: 2.6/i7 quad core with fusion drive

Any input appreciated and/or drive brand recommendations.

Use all FW800, in a chain, one to the next, etc. Make sure your drives have both FW in and out (2 ports each) Don't use USB. And make sure your drives are 7200 rpm NOT 5400.

Apparently USB 3 is a different beast than USB 2, not only faster than it but faster then eSATA or Firewire 800.

I have been using FW drives daisy chained as George suggested o you but I think in the near future I will be swapping them out for SSDs in USB 3 cases.
