After almost two years of studying, tweaking, writing and rewriting, I have finally released a series of Harmonic Xpanders for Logic. These are small widgets that can be inserted into the Logic environment. They are based on the Oberheim Xpander's rotate mode (most famously used by Michael Brecker on tunes such as "Original Rays") but go many steps further in their playability and implementation.

    Features include:
Up to four static and four rotating voices
Rotating voices can be set to up, down or random rotation through assigned pitches
Independent assignment of outgoing MIDI channel for each voice to allow for a multitude of routing possibilities
Example files are included in the package so getting up and running is fairly straightforward

This package aso includes a Channel Strip I programmed for easy access to mapping CC data for the EWI (or other wind controller). It can also be used for other controllers as well.

    Happy Harmonizing!

    Hi John,
I couldn't find any information about the logic version(s) needed to work with your Xpander. Could you please give me (and others as well) a hint?
    Thanks,
    claus

    Sorry for that oversight:

The widgets were desIgned, built and thoroughly tested in Logic 9. Should function fine in Logic 8. As for other versions, I cannot guarantee they will work.

    Thanks. :D

You're welcome! I'm glad you're finding the Harmonic Xpander useful. I find it very inspiring to just play with it and discover new sounds and textures. I can see it being a great tool for ambient music and sound design.

Thanks for the support! Spread the word!

    Peace,
    John

That's really a great use of it! Very very cool...

Did you design the scale macro or purchase it somewhere? I'd be interested in getting my hands on some of that type of stuff. I mean, I could build it, but I'm kinda sick of the environment at the moment!

I'm really happy you're using and enjoying the Xpander. That means that all the work was worth it! I'd love to hear more when you have it.

    Peace,
    John

Here's another demo usage of the HarmonicXpander

    http://www.digimixstudios.net/HarmonicXpander2/

    I created the scale macros.
From several websites I was able to get the notes for a scale and then create close to 4300 Logic Scale Macros.

Since the scales come from several countries, they're duplcated so the uniqueness is far less then 4300, but i think names are what people are use too.

I'm planning on selling them, just need to finish the design on the website.

You're HarmonicXpander is a perfect match for my Scale Macros.

That's really cool as well! I agree that the combination of the scale macros and the Xpander is a killer duo.

I'd love to pick up a copy of your macros when they're available. Please let me know!

    Peace,
    John

Okay, had to post another one.

By no means are these finished pieces but I woke up this morning and it took 20 mins to get to the point that you see in this video.

Now i don't have to do this anymore :brkwl:
