Hotplugging a MH 2882?

Discussion in 'Metric Halo' started by nikolajsahlstroem@gmail.c, May 16, 2010.

  1. Hi there,

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I can't find the info anywhere.

Can I safely hotplug (connect / disconnect) my MH 2882 Expanded while my MBP is powered on, or do I risk damaging either machine?

    Cheers,

    Nikolaj

In theory, it is always best to power the gear down and not hotplug. There is always a chance of damaging your gear. I have hotplugged interfaces and drives for years and not had a problem. Others have.

If you want to be safest, power down.

    I am others ;)
Damaged Firewire ports on both, Mac and Interface, caused not even by hotplugging but only by accidently moving the cable a bit too far.

So far I know the problem is the Firewire 400 plug and jacket, not the small 800 version. But well, you may prefer to be rather save than sorry ...

    Absolutely
