Recently my friend gave me some wav. files sounds but I do not know how to program them into logic so it plays through my midi controller. Does anyone know how to use sounds from an external hard drive in logic?

You can create an EXS sampler instrument patch for instance. Read about the Logic build in sampler (EXS24) and how to create your own instruments.

Where can I find information about EXS24?

It's all there in the Logic Help files. Look for Logic Studio Instruments (en).pdf

You can also go to the online version:
Click on the link to Logic Studio: Instruments and then EXS24
