    Cool features!

I really hope it will come out stable. And is it Snow Leopard ready?

And have you noticed the new Apogee interface?

it says Intel only - any beta testers on here who might be able to comment if this is recommended or required? My G5 is still my main studio computer...

At least it'll change from "Logic is dead" to "The latest version sucks". Like it does EVERY time. :) (Logic has been pronounced dead just before the release of every upgrade since 6) :)

tried to buy the upgrade on the online store - cursor just spins when trying to add it to the cart.

We'll definitely see a period with comments from people who think these features will never work, that it looks like Garage Band, that it's too bad Logic 9 is out because they just bought Logic 8, who thinks Logic 9 is useless because one feature they missed in Logic 8 isn't there, and that nothing beats Pro Tools. Popcorn time. :)

It seems to me that this must be the most powerful and significant update of Logic that ever has been made.

I like the focus on audio editing, track import, elastic audio, audio quantize, bounce-in-place, multi-tool improvements...the typical stuff Pro Tools users have been wanting for a while.

I think this upgrade look amazing! Can't wait to start working with it. I really really like the flex-tool!!! :)

I'm also excited about Logic 9, but I believe that Logic 8 was the really significant update and a big change from the previous Emagic-type Logic that we were used to.

The one-window concept plus the Media browser made an amazing difference to one's workflow. I think Logic graduated at that point to become a real Apple app. I have no doubt that Logic 9 will retain the layout and basic concept of Logic 8, while adding new features like Flex time and all the Guitar stuff.

I don't see anything about remarkable new built-in synths or plug-ins (aside from the guitar stuff as mentioned) so I hope a lot of effort went into fixing bugs and improving the app in general. I like the selective track import and I'm sure there will be lots more features that come to light in the next few weeks.

    Just saw this....
"With Logic Pro 9 or Logic Express 9, you can export audio routed to aux channel strips. Use this capability to create stem tracks, which are commonly used to share sessions between studios. (Stem tracks are a set of pre-mixed groups of tracks from a song. For example, all the drums tracks might be mixed into one stereo stem and all the guitar tracks into another.) You can also create stems to use with MainStage's Playback plug-in, for use in live performance."

Honestly, I don't have a PowerPC based Mac anymore, so I'm not sure if it will boot up or not. But if they say "Intel only" that implies one of two things:

    1) The program only comes with an Intel installer. Therefore, there is no PowerPC version to install.

    2) It will install on a PowerPC machine, but some features in there won't work.

I'm not sure which of the above it is, I've not seen the installer, etc. But I think the writing is on the wall:
    • Logic Studio is now Intel-only
    • Final Cut Studio is now Intel-only
    • Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) will be Intel-only

Apple hasn't sold a PowerPC based machine in 4+ years now, I think. This might be the time to upgrade—even the cheapest Intel Mac Mini is faster than all but the fastest Quad G5s....

I don't think any of us can answer that positively, as we don't have Snow Leopard. :) But I find it unimaginable that with only weeks before Snow Leopard is released, Apple would release non-Snow Leopard ready versions of Final Cut and Logic.

Is there a more complete list of additions anyone can post a link to?

    Seriously welcome additions, I agree.

Hmm, actually, they usually put out a detailed changed log. As a side note, that manual link doesn't work for me. But thanks for the suggestion.
