Logic Studio apps Mainstage toggling ultrabeat

I'm trying to use the toggle function in Ultrabeat to bring patterns in and out. Sometimes when I hit the trigger, the pattern starts at one, and sometimes it starts from where I ended it. I'm trying to get it to start and 1 every time, and I'm not using toggle at step 1, because I want it to start exactly when I hit the trigger (not waiting for the clock) Any help?

I'm thinking this is related to MS's clock. Are you in play mode when this happens? (Playback and or Loopback running, etc.)

Thanks for your response. Yes, it does happen when I'm running playback. Where is the mainstage clock?

The clock seems to live in its own internal bus. You can view it if you a Parameter Text screen control icon in Layout and then map it in Edit to Actions>Beat Count.

Unfortunately, I don't think Ultrabeat will function in the manner you want it to as it's picking up the clock for tempo information. I don't see a work around or a fix. Let me know if you run across something.

Lastly, I'm wondering if you make the UB loops actual audio files and then put them in a Playback plug-in(s) (snap to beat) if you wouldn't get the results you want.

Thanks so much for putting some thought into this for me Doug. I will try and and set it up with my drum patterns as audio files in playback. I guess what you're telling me is that it's either ultrabeat or playback, but not both, because the playback will interfere with how i want ultrabeat to function. The only problem i foresee is, I like in ultrabeat how a subsequent trigger will replace the previous pattern, as opposed to what I imagine will happen in playback, in that it will add another pattern on top of the previous one. Is there perhaps a way to link playback triggers, to get one to replace the other as it's triggered?

    Thanks again.

Welcome. I've been away from MS for awhile so need some reasons to grapple with it.

If you put a Parameter Text screen control icon(s) in Layout mapped to same MIDI pitch as pattern (for example) and then map it in Edit to the Playback play/stop from start. Then hit the + sign in the right corner of the inspector and map to one of the two stop functions for any other Playbacks you have.

So in this way I can have C-1 start one Playback and stop another. I tried this successfully with two PBs, I'm sure you can do this with more. You might need to play with the synch and snap to settings....
