Logic 9 "Overload protection" query

Hey guys, I've been meaning to ask this a long time, but what happens exactly in this "overload protection" mode on the track export and bounce in place. Why do I get a progress bar saying its normalizing my audio file when I export a track using this mode (even if I did not choose the normalize option)?

As I understand it, basically this functions as a hard limiter. It will not raise levels, just prevents from clipping - so it may lower some, if needed. It still has to go through the analysis process to see what needs to be done, thus the normalization bar as it's part of the "normalization" features. Depending on your mix, it may not do anything at all. A better worded box could help minimize confusion.

Thanks a lot Doug, its good to know this process won't raise any levels even though the progress bar says "normalizing"!
