Logic 7 & earlier Simple help needed from LA7 user, urgently

Discussion in 'Logic 7 and older Versions' started by Hendrik Jan Veenstra, Aug 16, 2012.

  1. Dear fellow LUGgers,

After having been out of the loop for 8 years, I finally upgraded to Logic 9 (coming from 6 on OS9). Now I'm in the process of re-arranging my samples, songs, and whatnot - migrating stuff from an OS9 structure to OSX.8.

To my dismay I discovered that I have a bunch of ancient (Logic 4) songs that can't be opened by L9. L9 tells me to open and resave the songs in Logic 7 first... which I don't have (well, actually I do have it, in a box on a shelf, but I don't have a compatible Mac anymore :)

Would there be a kind soul (of the L7-using kind) to whom I can send 16-20 song files (just the lso's will do, I suppose), who would then open and save them for me and send them back to me? You would earn my eternal gratitude and free beers whenever you decide to drop by in Holland. Anyone... pleez... ??

thx for any reply in advance,
    Hendrik Jan Veenstra

    Are you sure?

I have L7 on an iMac Intel Core i7 with Lion. It works. At least it boots up so works well enough and long enough to save an old Logic project.

I'm not sure if I installed it on this machine though or just copied the application over from a backup, probably the latter.

    Hi Hendrik,

    Long time no see!

Anyways, try and use the new import function. I am not sure if it will work, but I am under the impression that it should: Open a new blank song, then select "import" under the main file menu, select the song that has the data you want, and check the tracks you want.

Sounds good, but I don't see where you would select tracks to import ???

When I try using import on old songs, I get the dialogue telling me to open with Logic 7.2

Can someone send me just the logic file with no audio for me to test? george @ george tech guru dot com ????
  7. Hi George, ditto here! Glad I'm still remember by the old-skoolers :)

Tried, but doesn't work -- I get the same message as when double-clicking. Thx for thinking along though. I just sent Pete the files -- we'll see how that works out.
  8. Ehrm.. frankly, no, after your reply I'm no so sure anymore :) I just assumed... etc. But then... I now have an 8-core MacPro with Mountain Lion, and PowerPC apps are thus out the window. Not sure what kind of app LA7 is... I might try installing it one of these days, just for the heck of it -- got the LA7 box sitting here on a shelf, unopened and unused. I'm just not too sure where I left the xskey when we moved to this house 6 years ago. lol...

You could always hook up a new drive to it, install 10.5 or so, then do the logic 7 thing. It might take an hour, but would resolve the issue, right?
  10. It *would* resolve the issue, but boy, do I get tired even thinking about going that route :). And in the meantime I sent them to Pete who had them back in my mailbox within 10 hours! And they're all working fine. See, that's how we deal with problems over here in Europe :)). Thx for thinking along though -- I already start feeling being home again...
