Logic 9 Solo button shuts entire track off

on a song that was converted from Logic 5, to Logic 7, to Logic 9, any solo button shuts the entire song off (no sound is heard). This occurs with the solo button on a track's fader, or the one in the arrange window. I am able to solo a track by selecting it and hitting "s" on the keyboard, as always.

I also noticed that if I open up a track in the sample editor, I can't play it by clicking on the waveform at the top of the editor's window, like I usually can.
    Any ideas are welcomed!

(I tried trashing prefs, no change)

Sounds like the file became corrupted in the conversion process. You could try making a fresh, empty file and importing everything into it from the current file and hope that whatever glitch is messing with it doesn't get imported with it.
