    I'm new to Logic.

How do I assign Stereo Output? Right now it's going to Output 1-2 and I want to assign it to something else. It's not in prefs/audio/i/o assignments. I set that to the outputs i want but I can't relabel it in the mixer i/o labels panel.

    thanks!

    Did you check there:
    Using the I/O Labels Window
To reassign to a new output, you could just click on the output button in the channel strip...

In the Mixer Window I don't think you can change the output assignment of the Output channelstrip

    BUT

You can do this (and add other outputs) in the mixer layer of an environment window.

EDIT: NB you can only change the output assugnment (I think) if you are viewing the Inspector. (View menu)

thanks for the pointer to the mixer environment window. i haven't gotten to that yet in my learning. i don't think the environment is covered in the "exploring logic" pdf but i see that it's in the user manual. i'll hit that section when i finish the intro guide.

Trivial, but does your audio interface has more than 2 outputs?
If you only have 2 mono outputs or 1 stereo output, the only available outputs in Logic would be mono 1, mono 2 or Stereo 1&2...

yup. i have a 2408 and a 1224. logic want's to put the stereo output on the 1224's first 2 outputs and i want to put them on the 1224's main outputs.

... And in your Audio Preferences / Core Audio, what is the Output Device selected?...

That is correct. You need to then, like Pete said, go in to the Environment and create new Output Objects. This is not difficult to do. Under the New menu, the last item is Audio Objects. It's got a sub menu for the object type. Create an Output Object. Then, while it is selected, set the Output field in the inspector on the left to correspond the physical outputs you want it to represent.
