Logic Pro 9 Vu meter not displaying

Why am I not seeing the signal flow move in the channel strip's vu meter when I get signal in with record enabled?

I know there's signal flow because it does record once I hit the record button.

If you want to monitor inputs without the track being record-enabled, turn on the Input Monitoring button, the I left of the R. You can leave it on it if you like as it wont affect the record-enable functioning of the track.

Also turn on Software Monitoring.
