POSTING RULES
Q: What are are the LUGs guidelines on quoting:
It is tempting to automatically click the "Quote" button on a post, and simply type your message either above or below the full text of the post you are addressing. Unfortunately, this creates huge threads that are rather unwieldy. In order to keep these high-volume forums easily "readable", we would ask that you follow the following common sense, "good citizen" rules:
A) First, and most important: Trim your quotes by erasing unnecessary lines. Only quote what you are responding to.
B) Please write your responses underneath the text you are quoting. It increases consistency and is far more readable that way. This way, a reader sees what you are quoting, and then your comment—a very logical flow.
C) Do not quote more than 10 lines of text without inserting a
comment. You can do this by inserting your own end quote tag (type: [/quote]), skipping a line, typing your text, and then continuing with the quote by inserting a begin quote tag (type: [quote]). Please see the vBulletin FAQ for more information on BBCode.
Q: What are the limitations on what can be posted to the LUG forums?
In general, we have tried to include a selection of sub-forums that are broad enough in scope to promote and encourage stimulating conversations, and specific enough to eliminate the need for "off topic" posts in any given sub-forum. Please see the welcome message in each sub-forum for which specific topics are permissible inside.
However, there are certain types of speech that are absolutely not permissible in any forum, under any conditions. These will result in immediate disciplinary action:
* Any discussion of cracked or pirated software.
* Any Mac vs. PC holy war. Get over it, please.
* Any personal attacks or threats against another LUG member.
* Any "hate speech" directed against another. This is defined slightly differently across the world but in general any comments directed to a person that singles out one's politics, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. Obviously, these comments usually take the form of the already-banned personal attack, but we want to be clear that even "making fun" of someone's religion or race will be considered "hate speech" and will you will be disciplined. You're welcome to make joke around in posts with your friends in the LUG forums, but not if other readers outside your circle can mistake it for hate speech--even if you and your friend are comfortable with it.
* Any direct soliciting in any forum except those specifically designed for it, such as the Classified and Developer forums. You are, however, welcome to put a link to your store or business in your signature when you post.
PRIVACY
Q: I have a service that I know will be of interest to Logic users; can I collect LUG member's email addresses?
NO! No one is allowed to harvest the email addresses of LUG members, for any purpose. Such behavior is
unacceptable and will result in the immediate removal of the offending party.
